In 1996, I founded HIROPON FACTORY, the predecessor to Kaikai Kiki.
I started the company in 1996 because I was getting too busy working in the "contemporary art" world.
At that time, several people volunteered to work for me and assist me with my paintings and sculptures.
I also produced T-shirts and other goods, and created a small community through free newspapers.
By the time Takashi Murakami's solo exhibition was held at the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo in 2001, HIROPON FACTORY employed 50 people and transformed itself into an organization that managed artists while producing artwork.
In 2001, the organization was incorporated. The name was changed to Kaikai Kiki Ltd.
Today, Kaikai Kiki has its headquarters in Motoazabu, Tokyo, a production studio in Miyoshi-cho, Saitama, a souvenir store, a cafe, and a gallery on Nakano Broadway, and an animation studio. We also created an animation studio.
We also opened an office in Kyoto, Japan in 2016.
We also have an office and studio in Brooklyn, New York, where we have a total of 250 people working every day, including our own subcontractors, and more than 350 people in Japan and abroad.
We have an office and studio in Brooklyn, NY, with over 350 people working there every day, including our own subcontractors, and we have become an internationally influential art and video production and management company that discovers and trains artists.
In Japan, or perhaps in the world for that matter, there are few art entities of this scale.
The world of contemporary art continues to expand.
It has become a figure that cannot be compared to what it was 20 years ago when we made our debut.
It has become incredibly inflated and huge in terms of business, and in terms of expression, a more abstract and difficult but existential view of the world.
Our business is to build a bridge between this strange growth of "contemporary art" and the world of entertainment for people to enjoy.
If you have a chance to work with us, we would be happy to work with you.
We look forward to working with you.
Kaikai Kiki is also involved in the education and training of the next generation of artists.
Art is a long journey with no end in sight.
We gladly support others who walk this long and arduous road together.
We want to give as many opportunities and management support as possible to the young artists we discover at Kaikai Kiki so that we can bring out their talent to the utmost limit, create the best work, and help them succeed in the art world.
We will explore new techniques and fields of expression with these artists as they are presented in high quality exhibitions around the world, have their work included in good collections, and participate in events that will become major artistic events, gradually expanding in scale.
Living in the arts, there is a part of me that is intensely personal and resonates with others on a deeper level than I could otherwise achieve, and that flexibility makes me happy.
I believe in the power of art to break down boundaries, oppressions, and prejudices that block freedom.
